The country is currently going through an undeclared emergency. Farmers are agitating about 300 kilometers away, democracy is being strangled by giving that reason. EVM Hatao Morcha, a platform of NGOs, India Alliance, social organisations, intellectuals and citizens of the country, had organized a massive gathering at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on 22 February, but Delhi Police cancelled its permission. Delhi Police has banned the protest at Jantar Mantar till March 12. Yesterday the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict on the irregularities in the election of Mayor of Chandigarh. If the mayor there had not been elected through ballot paper, this rigging would not have been detected. Common people have come to believe that BJP is winning the elections by rigging and in such a situation, it is very easy to rig electronic voting machines, which is very impossible to catch. There is a ban on protest at Jantar Mantar till March 12 so that the misuse of EVMs by the BJP government is not exposed and voices are not raised against corruption, inflation and unemployment and farmers movement cannot take place. It is possible that the model code of conduct for election will be announced by March 12 and till then there will be no movement in the capital. The BJP government is also making the excuse that other protests have also been banned but the main reason is to stop the anti-EVM movement.
The main demand of the protest against EVMs at Jantar Mantar on 22 February was 'Mera Vote Mere Hath – Meri Parchi Mere Hath. We will fight for democracy till our last breath and hence tomorrow there will be a demonstration at Jantar Mantar and if the government sends us to jail, we are ready for that also, our decision is firm.
