EVM Mukt Bharat campaign was started today at Press Club of India, New Delhi. Voices are being raised against EVMs in every corner of the country. India Alliance has been seeking time from the Election Commission in this matter for about seven months, but no reply has been received till now. Apart from this, there has been a flood of mass movement in the entire country. In such a situation, it has become necessary to create a platform at the national level, which will be called ' EVM Mukt Bharat’. EVM Mukt Bharat is a representation of various sections including political, social, civil society and it will be non-political. Big and healthy democratic countries of the world have also started conducting elections through ballot papers instead of EVMs. The Election Commission was not impartial. Apart from this, doubts have deepened due to EVM and VVPAT. Till the time elections were conducted through paper ballot, the process was largely under the control of the Election Commission. With the introduction of EVMs, various agencies of the Government of India like Bharat Electronics Limited, Electronics Corporation of India and technical people from the private sector have become involved, in such a situation it is almost impossible to be impartial. A common argument given is that conducting elections through ballot paper is an expensive process, which is a big misconception. Two weeks of preparation is required to conduct elections through ballot paper. If this is not possible, then the VVPAT slip should be given to the voter and he should put it inside a box himself. The VVPAT slips should be counted so that all doubts are eliminated.
At the time of conceptualizing the EVM-free India campaign, it was decided that a committee should be formed. Following are the names in the initial committee and after the start of the campaign, people will keep joining and changes will also be made in the organizational structure as per the need - Shri Digvijay Singh, Shri Deepak Babaria, Dr. Udit Raj, Shri M.J. Devashayam (Citizen Election Commission), Shri Waman Meshram (BAMCEF), Comrade Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPIML), Shri Gurnam Singh Chaduni (SKM leader), Ms. Smita Kamle (India Against EVM), Advocate Mahmood Pracha, Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam (MLA), Shri Ashok Sharma (Former Ambassador), Shri Gautam Lahiri (President, Press Club of India).
